York-based incubator label Safe Suburban Home is proud to announce the UK release of Cabin Fever Dreamin’ by Swedish underground indie-rock heroes Lula.

After forming in 2016, the four-piece of Australian front-man Jake Farrugia and Swedish natives David Hägelstam (bass), Björn Trägårdh (guitar) and Rasmus Birgersson (drums) wasted no time in perfecting their 60s garage rock inspired sound - simple, catchy songs with a raw edge.

With 2019’s EP Pop Terror and a batch of excellent singles under their belt, Cabin Fever Dreamin’ was released digitally and in Sweden in 2020, marking a huge step forward for the band. This is an album of big singles, each one a certifiable banger and indie-dancefloor filler.

Now the album is being brought to the UK by Safe Suburban Home, with the single ‘At The End of The Bed’ due to do the rounds at the same time. This is a release that the label is certain will create a lot of new fans for a band that deserves to be household names.

Their music recalls the best of classic pop with a fuzzy edge, all in two minute blasts. Languishing with few listens on streaming services, these releases deserve to be adopted big time by indie clubs in the UK. Like The Hives introduction to Blighty via Alan McGee’s Poptones’ label on the collection ‘Your New Favourite Band’, this is a vital starting point for another hidden gem ready to rise to the top.

This is another Scandinavian band waiting to be your new favourite, whoever “you” are!

Despite the catchy pop veneer, it doesn’t mean that these songs are frivolous or lacking in depth, Lula take a fun swipe at some big issues like paranoia on ‘People Under The Stairs’, the turmoil of long-distance relationships on ‘Sunsets’ and existential crises on ‘At the End of the Bed’. All in all, the album captures the human experience of coming out of adolescence wondering “is this really what life is about?”

‘At The End of The Bed’, the single heralding the album is a big 60s-inspired singalong that nods to the biggest stadium moments of Britpop, at the rawer end of that movement. It combines the swagger and the musicianship of the best of pop-rock classics. And every single song on the album could have been the single, each song they create is a primed indie-dancefloor-filler and a summer festival anthem. That is the power of Cabin Fever Dreamin’, as it harks back to the golden age of singles (when albums were collections of hits). If it ain’t a hit, what’s the point?
