about

After years of experimenting together, close friends and multi-instrumentalists Mikey Wilson and Josh Heffernan finally hit on “their sound” in early 2020 and are now ready to unleash their first single ‘Think I Know The Answer’.
Recorded completely DIY in home studios (with both drums and vocals recorded in booths constructed from mattresses and duvets) the use of traditional “rock” instruments alongside analog synths has crafted an ethereal sound that comes with the charm of “performed not programmed” on the electronic parts. This is electronica with the heart and soul of classic musicianship.
The results (mixed by the pair and mastered by Kevin Tuffy at Air Studios (Chaka Khan, The Magic Gang, Crystal Fighters)) is testament to Kimber’s grasp of production techniques and sonic textures sounding as good as any “real” studio recording.
Drenched in melody and subtle soul-filled vocals this Kimber music is neither austere electronica, the bubblegum optimism of pop or the pure bounce of indie-rock. It sits somewhere in the cracks. The woozy production of Mount Kimbie, LCD Soundsystem’s wonky but captivating melodies and the emotional articulation of The National, riding on low New Order basslines, even Bauhaus introspective darkness, but also none of it.
Their genuine friendship has allowed them to explore deeply personal subjects for these debut songs, crafting relatable narratives that draw the listener in to their world. ‘Think I Know The Answer’ reflects on living in the haze of grief and ‘Like Shadows On The Wall’ is an ode to refusing to let go of the past, a comment on toxic nostalgia.
